Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
To understand the basics of dental insurance policies, there are a few words that you’ll want to learn because you’ll hear them time and time again:
-
The deductible is a set amount of money that your insurance company will require you to pay out-of-pocket before your benefits kick-in.
-
The maximum is a capped-off amount of money that your insurance company will pay out for your treatments over the course of a calendar year.
-
The premium is the monthly or annual rate that you pay for coverage.
It’s important to remember that your plan likely restarts at the beginning of every year, on January 1st. In order to maximize your benefits, you’ll want to receive any treatments you need while your deductible is paid and before you hit your maximum.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
Dental insurance is focused more on preventive care than the treatment of severe oral health issues. This shows in the fact that they typically cover 100 percent of the cost of routine checkups and cleanings, 80 percent of the cost of basic treatments, and 50 percent of the cost of more invasive procedures. To learn whether your plan will cover a specific treatment, it’s best to contact them directly.
We Offer In-Network Savings & Welcome Out-of-Network Providers
Our financial coordinators are highly skilled at navigating insurance policies and helping patients get the most out of their coverage. We’re proud to be in-network with most major PPO insurance plans, and we file claims for out-of-network patients as well.

We Accept Medical Insurance
Steele Dental is able to accept medical insurance through BCBS ONLY. We can file claims for treatments that are deemed medically necessary, and this can help someone meet their deductible while also reducing their out-of-pocket cost. We will always check to see if it will benefit the patient to file with their medical or dental insurance, and we can answer any questions as to which plan would best apply to your situation.
